Due to the fact that the museum incorporates anthropology, archaeology and natural history it is often overlooked for the latter but is well worth at least a day of your time when studying in the region.
When exploring Manchester’s Natural History Museum, one will find the customary Tyrannosaurus Rex, fossils and all manner of other pre-historic creatures as well and artefacts from dynasties such as the Egyptians. There are all sorts of interactive activities you can take part in should your heart desire to, making it a great day out with your friends.
There are also a wide range of great refreshments available at the museum due to the fact it is located in a bustling part of the city and just on the doorstep of Manchester University. Manchester Art Gallery
If natural history isn’t really your cup of tea and you are on the hunt for things to do in Manchester, then why not check out some of the phenomenal art you can find around the city. Manchester doesn’t really need much introduction in terms of its artistic legacy with the likes of Lowry proudly hailing from the region, but this is really just the tip of the iceberg.
Manchester Art Gallery is visited by tens of thousands of tourists and locals every year and its ever changing exhibitions make it a fan’s favourite. The Gallery is perfectly located too, sitting on Mosley Street which can be found just on the doorstep of the city’s freshly refurbished St. Peter’s Square, so finding it even as a newcomer to the city couldn’t really be easier.
The current headline exhibition is Martin Parr’s return to Manchester whereby the artist explains just how life for Mancunians has changed over the centuries, but as mentioned there is so much more to see. Nordic Craft, classic painting, ever changing events and talks make this attraction for student’s looking to learn about the history of art and just what it means to the city of Manchester.
The other great thing about this museum is that once you are done, you are just a five minute walk from areas such as China Town and Northern Quarter, where you can really engage with Manchester’s cultural scene.
