A Bristol night out that is top of most student’s lists when studying in the city is undoubtedly Thekla. Famed mainly for taking place aboard a boat, which is pretty fitting given Bristol’s proud maritime past, this student night out takes place every Thursday during term time and you can get in for free before 10pm. If you like indie and alternative music and looking for a Bristol night out with a difference, this should definitely be your first port of call.
Although Motion isn’t specifically for students, it’s a night out you simply have to sample at least once during your time in Bristol. This time five years ago, it didn’t even exist and was a skatepark hidden behind Temple Meads railway station; today it is revered as one of the best emerging clubs in the country. Characterised by its main room and cavernous spaces, this club sometime even spreads to the nearby marble factory making it a truly intriguing night out. Defected, Cocoon, The Blast and Futureboogie all put on nights at Motion regularly throughout the academic year, so make sure you add these amazing nights to your social calendar.
This Bristol nightclub has a bit of a cult status amongst the locals and holds regular student nights too making it a bit of an all-rounder. Cosies is a classy wine bar by day but as the sun goes down it transforms into a party spot to suit individuals of all music tastes. If you like heavy base and dub, then this is the place for you and DJs from across the UK flock to the venue to take advantage of their world class facilities. For something a bit more chilled, head to Cosies on a Sunday for a bit of reggae and essential dance. Karaoke is definitely back in fashion these days, especially amongst students so it makes sense that Bristol’s best karaoke bar makes it into this list of the best clubs in Bristol. Whether your go-to is a bit of Bon Jovi, some Oasis or maybe you see yourself as the next Skepta or Stormzy, these guys will have you covered and the venue is pretty cool too!
You can find this bar on Nelson St which is just down the road from classic feeder bars such as Bierkeller, making a trip to Kobe essential for students looking to enjoy the bright lights of Bristol.
Created in homage to Blue Mountain in Jamaica, this Stokes Croft club has stood the test of time and has been welcoming students through its doors for decades. It has also kept its identity and not been tempted to deck itself out like a many metropolitan bars these days. It has bags of character though and when the dancefloor is full and the tunes are pumping, there are few bars with a better vibe than Blue Mountain. If you fancy a rave, then we suggest heading here as it’s all part of the Bristolian experience.
