Moving out of home for the first time is 3 parts exciting to 1 part terrifying. The fear of the unknown is a real thing, especially in these uncertain times. With the Covid-19 pandemic, this is an exceptional time to be starting university, however we have no doubt it will still include endless fun as you venture out into the world on your own. For this dream to become a reality, finding quality student accommodation is a must.

While finding your feet with new learning styles, friends, and areas, you’ll want to feel safe, at home and happy to flop down on your own bed. After a day in lectures, tutorials, societies, sports, parties… you’ll need a sanctuary to get your batteries charged again for the next one!

So how do you go about finding the right accommodation? There is no magic formula, but we hope that these tips will help point you in the right direction:

  1. Create a non-negotiables list

Work out what your priorities are. We’re pretty sure fast, reliable internet is at the top of most student wish lists, but what else? Is proximity to the university on there? Remember to consider where you’ll actually be spending most of your time, as being central will carry less of a premium if you have 30 hours of weekly teaching on a campus out of town. Think about what else you’d like to be near to. Public transport, both for your university life and to connect you home might be of interest.

Safety? Do some research on the neighbourhood itself before making a decision. Keep in mind that you probably need to feel comfortable walking home at night from a bus stop or neighbour’s, or at least standing on the street hunting for your keys after having piled out of a taxi!

Social life? Are you looking for somewhere quiet where you can put your head down and focus, or somewhere with an emphasis on communal space to build a network?

Our tips come from what we look for when creating quality student accommodation. We make sure that our range of rooms are conveniently located, cater to a variety of lifestyles, and are all in safe areas. If you decide to join us as an Almero Student Mansions resident you can look forward to comfort, community, and care.

  1. Decide on a budget

Quality student accommodation comes at a number of different price points, and what looks good at a first glance may have hidden costs. Make sure you understand all of the costs involved and whether things like electricity, water and WiFi are included.

At Almero Student Mansions TV and internet access and utility bills are included, so you won’t have any unwelcome surprises! Plus, your accommodation will be fully kitted out, which means that you don’t need to invest in desks, cupboards or beds.

  1. Do your homework

Make sure that you’re dealing with a reputable company, and only sign a legitimate contract. Our brand promise at Almero Student Mansions is to create a sustainable, fair and equal relationship with our tenants.

If you’re uncomfortable with any of the terms, or don’t understand what they mean, please let us know and we’ll be happy to chat them through. It’s important to us  that you’re clear on what we will deliver, and understand that these types of documents may be your first rental agreement, so we always welcome queries.

Wherever you decide to lay your hat, the prospect of being there should be an exciting one, even if understandably a little daunting! If it feels like somewhere you can imagine being happy and making memories you’ll cherish as you conquer pastures new, then we’d say you’ve made the right choice in student accommodation.
