Discover Nottingham’s history at the Castle

You may have already heard of Nottingham Castle and if you’re local, may have even walked passed it countless times. If you haven’t already, this magnificent 17th century mansion is well worth paying a visit to.

A central piece in the legend of Robin Hood and the starting point of the English Civil War, the castle is steeped in history. Boasting some of the best views in Nottingham, the castle is now a museum and art gallery. Open 7 days a week, you can explore and discover over 300 years of Nottingham’s history. The museum contains stunning fine and decorative arts galleries, as well as galleries exploring the story of Nottingham. The castle is the perfect way to soak up the history and legends of Nottingham.

Wander around Wollaton Hall and Park

Wollaton Hall is probably the most famous Nottingham attraction besides Nottingham Castle. This beautiful Elizabethan mansion was used in the Batman movie ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ as Bruce Wayne’s private mansion ‘Wayne Manor’. It’s located 5 miles north of Gotham, Nottinghamshire where Gotham City got its name from. The house itself was built in the 1580s and stands in the heart of Wollaton Park, surrounded by a 500-acre deer park. It now serves as the home of Nottingham’s Natural History Museum and Industrial Museum.

Explore the Attenborough Nature Reserve

The nature reserve is one of the most famous Wildlife Sighting places in England. Listed by BBC Wildlife Magazine as number 9 in a top 10 ‘eco places in the world’. The reserve now covers a massive 145 hectares with lakes, wetlands, grasslands and scrub. It has four main hides, it’s the home of over 250 different types of bird and many other wildlife. This is the perfect place for animal lovers when visiting Nottingham.

Grab a bite to eat at Sneinton Market

Sneinton Market is the Nottingham equivalent of Brick Lane. It has a wide variety of food markets. From the annual Street Food Party, a monthly vegan market, to the City Arts Summer Fayre. You can always find an event that will wow your day.  The Vegan Market is the most famous one at Sneinton Market. It runs on the 1st Saturday of the month with more than ten guest traders. The Street Food Party lasts three days from afternoon until 9 pm. If you are a foodie, Sneinton Market is a must-visit place!

Rummage through four floors of vintage clothing, antiques and art. Situated next to the train station and open 7 days a week, Hopkinson has over 60 stalls to browse over. You can shop to your hearts content whilst also taking time out to have a coffee and sweet snack from their tuck shop.
